MJ@Backyard

I’d like to start today’s post with a rather disturbing picture.

If you have young kids, please make sure they are asleep before you scroll down.

Are you ready?

Here it is…

BJ

does this remind you of something? Can’t quite place it?

Here… have another look..

BJ

ooooh… yea… can’t quite put your finger on it… Same here.

Took me a while, and some searching on Google but then I saw it.

MJ
Fuck, that is dead scary.

Yes, it was halloween, and we all decided to dress up.

Okay, okaay…. rather, I decided to dress everyone.

So anyways, I bought two markers, and one RM12 SilkyGirl eyeshadow kit from Guardian and Hey Presto….

Frank “wanna see my nuts?” Stein (yes, I reused my costume from last week’s party cos not enough time).

ZombieTrannie - Incidentally, Suren also gave this week’s MetroTip of the Day - Always use eyebag cream! And in absence of cream, get a good pair of shades.

SuperTran

Much better than SK’s one from laundry which was somethin like “Yadadadadada…. jabababababa…*2 hours later*… heebeejeebeee… and that’s why you should never cut chili before seeing your girlfriend”.

And a few other pics

All in all, a very fun night, cept for a few old pub regulars who couldn’t wait for us to get out of their beer n peanuts, and for the next cover band (which was awesome, btw.. Laylaaaaaaa).

Happy!

Oh and here’s a flashback from last halloween.
Happy!

I think our costumes have improved by leaps n bounds.

Thanks for comin peeps… We love ya all!

The laundry list

1. Play a rocking gig at laundry
2. Sell some CDs
3. Tell some lame jokes

Those were our modest goals at flyFM’s Campur Chart Goes LIVE at Laundry last thursday. And we achieved most of em. Thanks to all the guys who bought our CD - we didn’t set up a booth, but still managed to sell about 40 of them to various people, not forgetting the two righteous dudes who each bought ten from us. We love you guys!

Yes, we told some lame jokes, including our new regular thing - Superbar’s Metro Tip of the Day!, courtesy of SK. And yes, we rocked it up. Sorta. I was so keen to put on a good show, with 3 months of pent-up non-performing frustration in me, that I threw it all into Out of Body at the intro.

By Same Way I Do, I was croaking (although I’d like to think for an emo break-up song, croaking gives it an extra edge).

Here are some pictures from the night…

Basil & Superbar Superbar with Basil. I was levitating for real, much to Basil’s amazement. He does it in Photoshop. Tsk… amateur.

songlist
Our song list for the night. Pretty much our album + Power of Love (which still gets a great crowd response, so we’re keeping that in our repertoire.

dinesh on bongos

Dinesh, showing off his mad Photoshop Skilzzz as usual… PS: Thanks to Jeremie for taking all these awesome pics!

the crowd

Laundry extended the stage forward a bit, but unfortunately, there was a big fat table right in front where the most pit woulda been.

White Stallion

Gotta admit, I would like to take Bala’s guitar out for dinner and a movie.

sen kiat wailing
SK wailing cos no one got his joke :(

Suren rockin it up
SuperSuren was havin a good time, although he wasn’t in dress code with the rest of us. Who wears the pants, boy?

Through all this, we gotta say, FlyFM rocks the house! They fed us well, paid us well, and gave this gig a heckuva lot of publicity, and basically really put their money where their mouth is in terms of supporting local music.

So to anyone who says that FlyFM sucks, I will get personally offended. Whack u oni u know.

And this is why we love John

FLY FM’s Campur Chart Goes Live 4th October 2007

Finally folks, we’ll be playing our first gig since we released “Someone Open A Door and Let Me Outta Here!”. We’ll be playing a half hour set for the FLY FM Campur Chart Goes Live gig on 4th October (next Thursday) at Laundry. Show starts at 10pm.

Also featured during the gig are Army of Three and James Baum, so it’s gonna be a pretty awesome nite of good ol’ moozik. So come over to Laundry next Thursday and do us a favour and wish Chak happy belated birthday, will ya?!

21st nite of September

Everybody say “Happy Birthday Chak!”

Skin, Bones and 50 Years

If you had asked me to blog about Merdeka on 31st Aug, I’d have just balked at how cliché that would’ve been. Not that I’m putting down the significance of our country turning youthful 50, cos if it matters, I did my share of contemplation and have vowed to become a better Malaysian. There you are, happy? On the other hand, this isn’t really an entry about Merdeka per se.

I was at a friend’s place on Merdeka eve for dinner, good company, merlot, single malt whiskey, and lotsa beer. As a background to the evening, we had Foo Fighters’ Skin & Bones DVD playing. Now this was a DVD that I bought awhile back, played it once on my crappy TV with cracked speakers and never bothered again. But now, I was watching it again in all its HD & 5.1 goodness. And I figured, there couldn’t have been a better concert to pick to celebrate the country’s 50 years. Check out the DVD and tell me that the acoustic versions of stuff like “My Hero”, “Next Year” and “See You” don’t bring out images of role models, new beginnings and festivities in good ol’ rocked out fashion.

“Times Like These” and “Best of You” came up about 20 minutes after the stroke of midnight when we were done singing “Negaraku” at the top of our lungs on a balcony at the highest point in PJ, catching fireworks from 7 different places. (yup, I could still count!) Now those songs brought old memory racing back in my head (or was it the single malt?), and left me with a weird sense of optimism and hope that things are gonna be okay. And why not? I looked around me and all the major cultures of Malaysia were in the living room, exchanging hopes and aspirations without prejudice and just having an awesome kick-ass time. Here’s to the next 50 years!!

Jammin for ol time’s sake

The past weeks have been a bit hectic for all of us. SK’s been working through Merdeka, G’s been slutting himself on the internet, Suren’s taking up a master’s degree, and Din’s been taking pictures of hot women.

Me, I’m just bummin. Which is why it’s my turn to write today’s blog.

But anyway, it’s been really hard getting everyone in the same room, ironically since we started producing our EP. G’s going Stateside in a week’s time, so that means our EP launch is going to get delayed again :(

So it was nice to get a good jamming session in last week. Sometimes you only really appreciate things after you haven’t done them in a while, and sure enough, it was one of our best sessions, even if all we did was just to play the same old songs.

BTW, despite us not having a launch yet, CD sales have been pretty awesome! Some of Dinesh’s fans have been rabid enough to demand autographs, which we pre-provided (actually Suren and I signed on everyone’s behalf -ShhhhhHHhhhh….) at that still fantastically cheap promo price of RM10 ONLY!!!!

stupid fans and their unreasonable requests

Also, speaking of the same old songs, I’ve also got a new one on the table. It’s quite a bit darker, and happened while listening to Coldplay and Golden Earring during the same session, while being generally pissed off about life. Sure it happens to the best of us.

So Superbarbarians - there’s alot coming up before year-end for us here. Stay Tuned!

PS: Same Way I Do is up to #6 on FlyFM’s Campur Charts, up 3 places from its debut at #9!!! Vote us in by either sending an email with “‘Superbar - Same Way I Do ROCKS!” to campurchart@flyfm.com.my or SMS-ing “CAMPUR SUPERBAR” to 33661.

A bit of a correction here about Superbar’s interview on FlyFM. We’ll be on air this Sunday 7-8PM, with a repeat on Tuesday at 12AM (*that’s Monday 11.59PM in case ur wondering). Basil from FlyFM will be counting down the Top 10 songs from the local scene and with your votes “Same Way I Do” just might make its way into the charts. Will be posting some pictures from the interview. In the meantime, stay tuned to 95.8FM!

We’re on Oxygen Magazine

We did an interview for Oxygen Magazine a couple of weeks ago and it’s now out at your nearest bookstore. Here’s a little snippet off the interview.

1) In five words, describe yourself.

Suren: Don’t take us too seriously

Sen Kiat: Your new favourite band. Please.

Chak: We’re not gay, we’re metro

2) Do you consider yourselves metro by nature? If you are, to what extent?

Suren: On a scale of 1 – 10 (10 being “queer eye for the straight guy material”), I’d give us a 5. On our best days, we’d probably score a 6.

Sen Kiat: Yea, well I like shoes. Possibly more than women. And if that makes me “metro”, so be it. I only started using facial cleanser 4 years ago after I got some tips from a gay colleague.

Chak: Yea, I had tips from a gay colleague as well. Thus the new-found fetish for shoes. Although I still wear crocs once in a while to tell people I’m straight. No gay would be caught dead in beige crocs. And no, Sen Kiat is the only member who prefers shoes over women.

3) Who do you think is the most metro among you guys?

Suren: Sen Kiat. We all aspire to be him.

Chak: ‘Cept for the shoes over women thing
